No. In fact, it's very easy to take a pigment, dissolve it in a base, filter it and bottle it... and call that ink. The difficult thing is to manufacture a high quality ink that combines all the necessary characteristics and quality standards of the original and improve it as much as possible. There are many alternative inks on the market that we do not know, because our only reference is the original ink and the needs of our customers.
We have encountered all kinds of stories with printers who have previously used alternative inks with
results ranging from pitiful to simply passable. Our technical department has had to solve many problems r
elated to the use of cheap inks, which, curiously enough, went hand in hand with poor customer support.
We don't know what you can expect from other, cheaper brands. Our experience tells us that manufacturing a premium quality ink is not cheap. The research, components and tests involved in formulating our ink cost money. Yet we believe that the price you can afford to pay for your Inkplanet ink is more than fair. Between the limits of cheapness at the expense of quality or failure, and paying a price of gold for a product that is not worth it, there is us, with extreme quality and a very reasonable price.
As we pointed out before, not all inks are the same. At Inkplanet we constantly strive for excellence and quality of our products. No, it would be illegal. Machinery manufacturers often give huge discounts on the purchase of the machine to hunt them down later with their real business, ink. Although the EU Directives state that it is illegal to suspend a machine's warranty for the use of another ink, manufacturers in practice sometimes deny warranty service if they see that the user is not using their ink. Since the user is usually in the business of printing and not studying the law, they accept this unfair denial stoically.
